Summer Camp
June 1-26, 2026
Flamenco Works and Casa Barelas are two grassroots, community non-profits providing arts and cultural programs for families and youth in Downtown and Barelas. This summer, they are teaming up to bring your child a rich and engaging experience. We are offering two camps; one for experienced Flamenco dancers and the other for children who are just being introduced to the arts. All classes are led by master artists and instructors.
Both camps will culminate with a free-to-the-public performance at the KiMo Theatre, showcasing what the children have learned.
CAMP 1: CREATIVE EXPRESSIONS (Ages 5-13)
Your child will be introduced to dance forms such as Flamenco and Folklorico, will learn to sing their favorite Rancheras while learning guitar, go for bike rides while engaging with local community programs and learn from local artists sewing, develop drawing and painting skills, and learn cultural-based crafts.
CAMP 2: FLAMENCO INTENSIVE (Ages 7-18)
For dancers already studying Flamenco. Children and adolescents will take intensive dance classes in the mornings. In the afternoon, students will engage in other art and music activities, overlapping with students in the Creative Expressions Camp.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Priority will be given to students that can attend the full month. In order to participate in the final concert at the KiMo Theatre, students MUST attend the full month. Additionally, the curriculum is designed for the entire month so if students are only able to attend for a short period, please keep that in mind, as students may miss out on important information. We are happy to discuss the particulars of your schedule and see how we can accomodate.
Late pick-up:
Late pick up includes care from 3-5:30pm. You can register for late pick-up when registering for the camp. There is currently NO early drop-off, but with enough interest, we may be able to offer it. If you are interested, please email amalyah@flamencoworks.org
Are there scholarships available?

There will be a teacher waiting for you behind Flamenco Works. When you pull up to the building, your child can get out of the car and be accompanied by a teacher into the building. If you arrive after 9am, you will need to park and walk in through the front of the building. Please sign in at the front desk.
Pick-up: *Make sure your paperwork is updated with approved adults for pick-up. If someone is picking up who is not on the list, please call in advance to let us know.
You pick up your child at Flamenco Works on Mon/Tues/Thurs: To pick up your child, please wait at the front of the building where a teacher will greet you and bring you your child as soon as they are ready.
You pick up your child at Casa Barelas on Wednesday & Friday: To pick up your child, please wait outside at Casa Barelas. When your child is ready, a teacher will bring them to you.
About Off-Campus Walks:
“Campus” refers to either Flamenco Works or Casa Barelas. During lunch/recess period, we will be walking to a nearby park such as Civic Plaza or Barelas Community Center. During the walk, young children will be paired with an older student as their walking partner. Students will walk in two lines with adults surrounding the group. The ratio of adults to kids is approximately 7:1. We will carry lunch boxes, water, first-aid kits, etc. in a wagon that will come with us. The same process will happen when we walk from Flamenco Works to Casa Barelas on Wednesday and Friday. If you have any questions or concerns about off-campus activities and going off campus, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Is lunch provided?
Lunch is NOT provided. We will provide a small snack for students in the morning. Students will be asked to pack a lunch each day. This is an intense day for campers with a lot of movement and energy and so please pack a nutritional lunch that will give them energy for the day. *There will be an opportunity to purchase lunch from a local vendor…more details to come*
What do students bring to camp? How should they dress?
Flamenco/folklorico shoes. These are the same! You can purchase them at miguelitos.com. We have a limited number of donated shoes. If buying shoes is a financial burden, please send an email inquiring about shoes to amalyah@flamencoworks.org with the subject line “shoes”
Long skirt! Flamenco Works will be selling Flamenco skirts made to your child’s size for $75. To order yours, *SIGN UP FORM HERE*.
Lunch. The kids will be moving all day. Think lots of protein and nothing too heavy or spicy for the stomach!
Two extra T-shirts. The kids will be sweating and moving throughout the day. Bring extra shirts to change into– and if needed, deodorant.
Shorts/leggings. To wear under your dance skirt. Please, no jeans. Think sports attire.
Water bottle with Name. This is essential!!!
Sunscreen. Please apply before camp. We also suggest a sun hat for our time outside.
Dance Bag. Everyone should have a backpack or dance bag to carry their stuff.
Hair. Hair should be back and out of the face.
Sneakers. When not wearing your Flamenco shoes, kids should have shoes they can move in.
What do I need to do for the final concert at the Kimo Theatre?
All students enrolled at the summer camp will have the opportunity to perform at the KiMo Theatre showcasing everything they have learned over the summer. Professional guest musicians will be brought in to perform alongside the students. The performance is free and open to the public.
What you need: a black skirt and long sleeved leotard. We’ll provide the rest of the costumes! You may even make some of them! ;)
Additional rehearsals? Call time will be 12pm the day of the show.
Teen Camp Counselors:
There will be a limited number of spots available for teen camp counselors. Teen camp counselors will generally be in the “Flamenco intensive” Camp. Typically camp counselors need to be 15+ but special circumstances will be considered. We are looking for responsible teens interested in taking on leadership roles and gaining real-life work experience. To apply to be a camp counselor, email amalyah@flamencoworks.org with a cover letter and resume by March 1st.
Their jobs will be to help supervise younger students during drop-off, pick-up, during off-campus walks, at lunch/recess, and during special projects. Their work as camp counselors help offset the cost of their dance training in the morning. Additionally, camp counselors will receive free lunch daily and a $150 stipend for their work that will be deposited into their 529 accounts.
This is a sample schedule of their day:
