ABOUT THE CLASS: Torombo is one of the great Flamenco masters and mentors of our time. Studying with him is to embark on a profound journey of... “Flamenco as a way of life”.
He will be teaching one class dedicated to kids who have already been studying Flamenco and are ready to take their studies to the next level. The other class is for youth and adult Flamenco students looking to deepen their appreciation and understanding of Flamenco through rhythm, movement, history, and cante jondo.
**NOTE ON LEVEL: Students should have a strong background in Flamenco to take this class. Most importantly, come with an open mind and open heart! Feel free to reach out if you are unsure if this workshop is right for you.
ABOUT THE ARTIST: Francisco José Suárez Barrera, better known as "El Torombo", is a legendary Romani flamenco dancer, educator, and activist from Seville, Spain. Nicknamed by flamenco icon Farruco for his blonde hair, he is celebrated for his profound understanding of flamenco rhythm and his community-driven work.
Born in Triana, El Torombo began his career at the tender age of seven. He trained under major flamenco masters like Pepe Ríos, Isidro Vargas, and Mario Maya. Over the years, he has established himself not just as a performer, but as a devoted mentor and trailblazer. He is renowned for bringing flamenco education into marginalized communities, notably founding the "Fuera de serie" project for adolescents and teaching at-risk youth in Seville's Las Tres Mil Viviendas neighborhood.
His teaching methodologies are highly sought after by students worldwide who travel to Andalusia to learn the authentic "compás" (rhythm) from him. Beyond teaching, his charismatic footwork and stage presence have brought his dancing to international theaters and contemporary productions.
